Fun Weekend
I’ve taken a bit of a break from the blog and my lovely wife has done a wonderful job of posting, don’t you think? Let me start by saying that I did not think it would be possible for me to love to children that are not biologically my own as much as I love these two boys. It is a trip to think that I didn’t even know them 9 weeks ago and now I can’t imagine life without them. It is truly a picture of the love that God has for us and how he can love us even more as adopted sons and daughters. Cool stuff.
We had a great weekend. Saturday, not so much as we spent most of the day cleaning out our garage; however, we did have a neat experience with Mamush that is worth sharing. Seto likes to wash his toys. He will strip down to his BVD’s and sit in the grass with a bucket and some old rags and wash his trucks and stuff. He had a nicer toy that has been an inside toy and he was about to get it wet. I told him that if he washed it, it would have to stay outside. I could tell that what he thought I was saying was that the truck had to be washed outside and could not be washed inside. He was fine with that, but it was not what I was trying to communicate. I asked Mamush if he could explain to Seto what I was saying in Amharic, and he did it! Too cool. Seto understood exactly what I was saying and got the truck wet anyway. We now have a little interpreter in the house! Not that we won’t need Fantah any longer, but it is neat that Mamush can do some of that for us.
We spent Sunday afternoon with Nancy’s family at Lago Vista. The boys went in the boat with Papa and loved the tube. We got to attend Ava’s (our niece) baptism and that was really special. The boys love to be at the lake with Nana and Papa, they did not want to leave. We did leave the girls out there with Perry and Marilet and they had a ball, ended up spending tonight out there as well. It has been good to spend a day or two with just the boys, but we miss our girls!
Mamush is very much into deer and the idea of hunting. He looks at my deer mags from cover to cover and is always on the lookout for deer where ever we go. I introduced him to my Playstation game, Deer Hunter, and it is a huge hit. He can’t play it by himself yet, but he wants to play all the time and when he shoots a deer, it is like Christmas. God is good and brought me a boy that will enjoy the things I enjoy, amazing.
We found out why Mamush is always concerned about alligators when we are around water. He told us a story from Ethiopia. He was out with his father fishing, he turned his back on the water and an alligator came up behind him. His father yelled at him and he ran away. His father took a stick or pole and killed the alligator. That certainly explains why he is so concerned when we are around water. Gives you a different perspective when you live in a country where there are animals that can eat you!
We are going to a Round Rock Express game on Thursday night with our dear friends the Hafner’s. We have been blessed with the use of a suite for the night. Should be fun, but we worry we are spoiling the boys, nah.
Seto’s birthday (that we selected) is this Saturday. He will be three and he is pretty excited. We are going to have a small family gathering. I think Mamush wishes it was his birthday (which will come in September - he will be 9).
That is all for now. Hope you are all doing well and may God bless you.
